Figma is a design tool that operates in the cloud and is compatible with all operating systems that support web browsers. Figma can be used on Macs, Windows PCs, Linux machines, and Chromebooks.
It is quick, user-friendly, and eliminates the need to save files locally as everything is stored in the cloud. For a more in-depth overview of Figma, head over to their website.
Working with Design Cloud in Figma
Viewer Access (Default)
When your designer provides a link to the Figma board, we'll grant you access to view the board and also leave comments directly on the artwork.
Once your request is complete, your designer can export the images and send them over for you to use in your campaigns.
Requesting Editor Access
Currently, Figma does not offer a way for two organisations to collaborate with editor access on one board in the cloud.
The original creator of the document (the owner) needs to invite users to collaborate on the file, and the original creator will then be billed for adding that user.
An example of this in practice: You have an existing Figma file in which you would like us to work in and you invite one of our designers to the board. You would then have to pay to add our designers to your account. This can get costly when working with multiple designers and team leaders from our team. (£12pm per user).
As another example: If we create a Figma file and your whole team want's access to edit it, we would be charged for each user invited.
At the time of writing this article, we have ~1000 platform users. This could quickly get out of hand for us if we cover everyone's Figma bill...
Workaround
Once your design request is complete, your designer will send the .fig file to you so that you can open it in your own Figma account. This would allow you to open the file, make edits as you please and share the file back with your designer to continue if needed.
Figma mentioned in their recent Config Keynote that they will be brining more collaborative tools for agencies and clients soon - Including the option to allow two organisations to collab, without the current billing issue. (No info on dates for this though)
